Seasonal Ad Strategy: Meta and Google Ads Budgets for Q4 2026

A wooden metronome standing on a white surface

A seasonal ad strategy for a small business with £300 to £1,000 a month is mostly a matter of timing: start awareness ads this week, have conversion campaigns running by the week of 2 November for Black Friday and the week of 16 November for Christmas gifting, and raise budgets in steps rather than jumps. Google's festive guidance says to adjust campaign budgets and ROAS targets four to six weeks before the peak season, and with Black Friday on 27 November that window runs from 16 to 30 October, so this post goes out in the middle of it. It is for a salon, a takeaway or a shop buying its own ads, not about the Christmas TV campaigns of 2026.

Which dates shape the Q4 2026 ad season?

Black Friday is Friday 27 November, the day after US Thanksgiving (Thursday 26 November 2026); Cyber Monday follows on 30 November. Small Business Saturday UK is 5 December. GOV.UK lists 25 December, 28 December and 1 January as bank holidays. Royal Mail's last recommended posting dates for Christmas 2026 are Friday 18 December for 2nd Class and Monday 21 December for 1st Class.

What did UK search demand do last season, week by week?

Google Trends shows relative interest, not volumes; these UK terms were pulled on 12 October 2026 in five-term batches, so each value is relative to the largest term in its batch. From the five-year view:

Takeaways differ: our own 12-month pull of "takeaway near me" (check the live chart) showed no run-up, just a busier Christmas week, so the takeaway plan below spends then.

When should a small business start Christmas and Black Friday ads?

Before the searching starts, because both platforms need time to learn. Meta says an ad set usually leaves the learning phase after about 50 results in the week after its last significant edit. Google says to evaluate performance after one to two conversion cycles, and that holiday assets for Performance Max should be uploaded at least two weeks in advance so they are approved. That gives three start lines:

  1. Awareness this week. Short vertical video of what you sell for Christmas; it builds the audience you will retarget.
  2. Conversion campaigns live by the week of 2 November for Black Friday and by the week of 16 November for gifting, so each has at least a fortnight of results before its peak.
  3. Bidding changes for the sale days only. Google says seasonality adjustments are ideal for short events of one to seven days and may not work as well over more than 14 days, so use one for 27 to 30 November, not for December.

What do Meta's and Google's own guidance say, and what applies at £20 a day?

Meta's festive article, published on 11 June 2026, says that "the brands that win Q4 don't build their strategy in November". Its performance figures come from Meta-commissioned tests, not a forecast for your account.

At £20 a day the useful Meta pages cover budgets. The minimum budget page says a daily budget should be at least five times your cost per result goal, and that if purchases are too expensive to optimise for you can optimise for an event that is easier and cheaper to achieve: messages for a salon, clicks to the ordering page for a takeaway, add-to-basket for a shop. It also says the risk of under-delivery is lower with Advantage+ campaign budget, because budget is allocated freely across all ad sets.

Google's festive guidance, published on 27 August 2024, is written for retailers; its advice to create holiday-specific asset groups within existing Performance Max campaigns suits a shop with a product feed. Its shop-visits campaigns do not suit a single site, since Google recommends a minimum of 10 business locations; run a plain Search campaign instead.

Do ad prices rise in November and December?

Industry data says they do, though nobody publishes UK figures; treat what follows as a shape, not a forecast. Triple Whale, an ecommerce analytics firm, reports across more than 33,000 shops that Meta CPM over the Black Friday to Cyber Monday period in 2025 rose about 7.8% to $22.26; it does not state the geographic mix. GeistM, an agency, reported Meta CPMs up 7% in late October, 3% in early November, 11% in late November, 11% in early December and down 10% in late December 2025, with no sample size given. The shape is consistent: costs climb from late October, step up around Black Friday, and fall after Christmas.

How do you pace £300 to £1,000 a month across the season?

Meta may spend up to 75% over your daily budget on a day and no more than seven times it in a week. Google might spend up to twice your average daily budget on a day and no more than 30.4 times it in a month. A £20-a-day plan might be weighted like this:

Phase Dates Daily spend Job
Build 25 Oct to 1 Nov £14 Video to warm audiences, fix tracking
Pre-sale 2 to 22 Nov £20 Conversion campaigns live, retargeting on
Peak 23 Nov to 13 Dec £28 Black Friday to Small Business Saturday
Last orders 14 to 24 Dec £20 Posting deadlines, click and collect, vouchers
Reset 26 Dec to 10 Jan £10 to £14 January offer from 26 December, then taper

The steps stay around 40% or less because Meta says frequent budget changes can push an ad set back into learning. For retargeting, Meta's own example is people who visited your website in the last 30 days but have not converted; use seven days for a booking page or an abandoned basket, 14 for a takeaway menu, and exclude anyone who has already bought.

What can a seasonal ad say about prices, deadlines and reviews?

The CAP Code, which the ASA enforces, says quoted prices must include non-optional taxes, duties, fees and charges that apply to all or most buyers. Deadlines must be real. Schedule 20 of the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 lists practices that are unfair in all circumstances, and paragraph 7 is "falsely stating that a product will only be available for a limited time, or that it will only be available on particular terms for a limited time". The CMA's guide says the changes came into force on 6 April 2025 and that the CMA and the courts can fine traders up to 10% of worldwide turnover. The ASA has upheld a complaint against "Only 14 tickets remaining" when 44 of 50 were unsold. For "was" prices and what counts as a genuine saving, see our guide to Christmas pricing and discount rules. If an ad quotes reviews, the same schedule bans fake and concealed-incentive reviews; our guide to getting more Google reviews covers the compliant way to ask.

What do the week-by-week plans look like for a salon, a takeaway and a gift shop?

All three assume the Meta pixel, Google conversion tracking and a verified Business Profile are in place; if not, that is week one.

A salon in Gravesend might run £14 a day of Reels from 25 October, open party bookings on 1 November with a messages campaign plus £6 a day on Search for "christmas party hair" and the town, retarget booking-page visitors from 8 November, run a voucher bonus that genuinely ends on 30 November, switch to e-vouchers from 13 December and drop to £10 a day for January bookings from 27 December.

A takeaway could split £10 and £10 between local Reels and Search from the start, push a Bonfire Night bundle for Thursday 5 November, retarget menu visitors from 8 November, sell office party platters from 15 November (see our post on Christmas party bookings), lift both to £16 for Christmas week, and fall back to £6 aimed at past customers from 3 January.

A gift shop would upload its Christmas asset group to Performance Max this week, schedule it on from 1 November, move Meta to an Advantage+ sales campaign on 8 November, step budgets up on 15 and 22 November, push hampers in the weeks of 6 and 13 December, switch to click and collect once posting dates pass, and schedule a January asset group from 26 December.
